Say "Hello" thread

I’m Sudhanshu Tiwari, a student of Master of Computer Applications in Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, India. I have been a user of the GNOME Desktop Environment since quite a while and lately, a GNOME contributor in many projects. I’m currently learning Vala, GTK and libadwaita and using them to build GNOME apps.

As part of my GSoC project I’m working on adding support for the latest GIR attributes to the Vala compiler and GI-Docgen formatting support to Valadoc under the mentorship of Lorenz Wildberg. I have prior experience building web development projects with JavaScript and this will help me in modernizing the appearance of Valadoc.org. This will be a good start for my journey as a GNOME contributor and I look forward to having a fun and learning experience giving back to the community! Hello everyone

Hello!

I’m Udo. I am an Outreachy Intern working on the GNOME project to conduct a series of short user research exercises alongside Tamnjong Larry.

As an early-career UX Designer, I have a deep appreciation for GNOME’s commitment to user-friendliness and inclusivity in FOSS, and for the duration of this internship we will be working with the GNOME design team and employing a mix of user research methods to meet research needs of the GNOME project.

Our mentors are @allanday and @Aryan, and I am thrilled to be here.

Cheers!

Hi, I’m Nils Philippsen and have been around for a good while :older_adult:. I’ve been using GIMP and GNOME since their infancy and occasionally contributed the odd patch here and there. During the day I work for Red Hat in the Community Platform Engineering Team, we develop and run the infrastructure for the Fedora and CentOS projects.

I’m Aryan, 20 years old. Been using computers since 2007 and Linux since 2017.

I’ve been dualbooting and sometimes not using entirely all this time but last week I ditched Windows entirely and switched to Linux Mint Cinnamon.

I’m a college student who writes software. I’m kind of new to working with such a large group of volunteers but I’m glad to be here. I’m currently working on localisation of GNOME to my native language.

Donc, j’utilise Fedora 41 Workstation (GNOME Shell 47.2)

Je m’intéresse de près à GNOME Shell, et à Phosh. Je pense que les logiciels devraient êtres construit pour le + petit écran (mobile) en pensant aux plus grands (desktop) et non l’inverse.

J’espère travailler/contribuer à GNOME!

Hello, I’m Aaditya Singh, a 22-year-old from Nepal—the land of Mt. Everest and Gautam Buddha. My Linux journey began in school when I installed Ubuntu, inspired by my seniors’ tales of “hacking.” Although I didn’t find the tools they mentioned, it sparked my curiosity.

Today, I’m a backend developer using Linux daily and an active advocate for open-source literacy. Leading the local team for GNOME Asia Summit 2023 fueled my love for community building. Since then, I’ve organized events, educated over 500 students on Linux and GNOME, and embraced the mission of spreading open-source knowledge in Nepal.

I also enjoy teaching people about building open-source communities through conference talks. Need help building a community? I’d love to share what’s worked (and what hasn’t) from my experience. Let’s connect and grow together!

Hello everyone!!! Varun here. I just got accepted into GSoC 2025 to add eBPF profiling capabilities to Sysprof. My mentor is @chergert and I’ve been contributing to Sysprof since mid January this year.
I’ve been a Gnome Desktop user for a while at this point starting from probably 2019 when I discovered Linux and tried to install Debian with Gnome on my trash computer back then. I got into programming when I got my hands on an Arduino and have never stopped since.
I love working with things close to the hardware and have a great deal of interest in operating systems and compilers. I am also a contributor on gcc-rs and I am currently contributing to the Ethereum ecosystem as well (Not very major stuff, but I like the work so yeah…).
I honestly want to be a part of the Gnome community in the long term as well. I think I absolutely love the work Gnome is doing and would like to be a part of it for a long while, so I hope I will be accepted well here

P.S. I am also a mechanical engineer in training ( basically means that I love to watch (mostly) and build (sometimes) simulations of stuff )

Hi, I’m Victor. I will be contributing to GNOME Crosswords, as part of GSoC 2025.

My project adds an overlay to the Crosswords editor, which improves the editing experience for users. Some potential things this overlay can do:

  • Give a heat map of hard-to-fill cells.
  • Give a warning for potentially problematic words (such as crosswordese or non-dictionary words).
  • Give a warning when an unch is detected.

My mentors are:

  • Jonathan Blandford
  • Tanmay Patil
  • Federico Mena Quintero

Hello, I’m Sebastian (English variant of my real name, Sebastiano), 23 y.o. guy from Italy.
I’m currently studying computer science at university.

I started my journey on Linux in 2015 with Debian XFCE, now I’m using Fedora Silverblue with GNOME (I’ve been using GNOME since 2021 starting with Fedora Workstation).
In a new laptop, which will be my new daily driver alongside my desktop PC, I plan to put GNOME OS on it.

In my free time I translate GTK4/Libadwaita apps in Italian (my native language), and sometimes doing posts about GNOME’s new features, developments and improvements on various platforms like Mastodon and Reddit, to inform fans and users of what is happening in the project, since people like to get news on the fly, without searching through discussions, issues and merge requests, so I try to do the work myself.

Hi everyone!

I’m Alley, a 23-year-old from Toronto, Canada, and I’ll be contributing to Vala by improving the integration of certain format languages like YAML, XML, and JSON as part of GSoC’25. My mentor is @lwildberg, the one who runs mastodon.social/@vala_lang and is a Vala developer.

If anyone is willing to give me projects in Vala that use any of these formatting languages, or offer suggestions for how the integration could be improved, would be greatly appreciate it.

I’m really excited to be and stay here

Hello everyone!

I’m Toluwaleke. I got accepted into GSoC 2025 to add printing support to GNOME Crosswords, and my mentors are Jonathan Blandford, Federico Mena Quintero, and Tanmay Patil.

I started programming and using Linux in 2017. Over the (few) years, I’ve been through a couple of Linux distros, mostly with Gnome Desktops. I was introduced to GNOME (not the DE) by @hpj late last year, and I have to say that the few people I’ve met within the community are great, and I’m glad to be a part.
