Gnome is the most used desktop environment on linux, and thats for a good reason “IT’S THE BEST BY A MILE”, Gnome is not buggy not confusing with options and it’s intuitive but no one can really experience that as intended.
Gnome is an open source software with a gpl license, wich means any one can modify and redistribute it “and boy they do”, as far as i’m aware no distro ships gnome in the way it’s intended to be used, some completely drown gnome with extensions and some may only replace the browser and console, tbh the cleanest i was able to experience gnome was on arch linux but thats alotta work to get a smooth experience.
I’m aware that gnome is planning a distro dubbed " gnome os" and i can’t wait for it, but that leads us to another topic, so we got a new vanilla gnome experience “as god intended” now what, i think gnome could be better if they did these things:
the maximize minimize buttons i’m aware that they don’t do anything except look pretty but some people just want a button to maximize the window not everyone knows that if you double click the title bar window maximizes and not every one know how to send windows to another workspace or they just want to place their window bellow all windows without trying to reinvent the wheel.
blur in my opinion blur is the best eye candy a desktop environment could have thats the only extension i use besides the weather extension yes i use blur my shell because honestly it looks good
the colors i think gtk4- gtks looks amazing and i love em i preffer them over qt or efl but i also have an android phone i shamelessly use material u. the gtk default theme could be adjusted to match a wallpaper while giving developer the option to opt out of following system theme by having their own color schemes,
sorry i dragged you too long to get to this point but i just woke up and i couldn’t sleep last night with these thoughts in my mind i really like gnome i would like too see it get even better i would really like to see gnomes own implementation of the wallpaper following color scheme in my opinion that will solve the theming crisis developers of gnome apps are complaining about because as i said above they can opt out of following system theme
thank you much very
