A new Nextcloud instance is now available at nextcloud-ng.apps.openshift4.gnome.org. On August 23, 2024, this instance will be migrated to cloud.gnome.org
, replacing the old instance available there. Users are responsible for transferring their own files, as there will be no automatic data migration between the old and new instances.
The current Nextcloud instance will be relocated to nextcloud-deprecated.apps.openshift4.gnome.org
on August 23, 2024 and decommissioned by September 30, 2024.
This migration is necessary to address some long-standing issues with our current setup. The existing instance predates the 2016 fork of Nextcloud from Owncloud, resulting in accumulation of legacy data. Additionally, LDAP integration has led to database clutter with inactive users. Meanwhile, the new instance leverages a standalone PostgreSQL cluster. It also uses the new SSO portal for authentication. It will also synchronize groups from the centralized system. These changes will improve overall service reliability.
Finally, the new instance is capable of storing large files. If you need to upload files bigger than 200MB, navigate to External storage
in the sidebar, choose directory called Minio
, and create a new subdirectory there. Please note, it will be visible to all Nextcloud users.
We will be contacting active users of the old Nextcloud instance to ensure smooth transition. As usually, we are available to answer any questions over Discourse, Matrix or GitLab.
