Hi!
I would like to automatically save my session (opened windows and their position) when I turn off / reboot my computer.
I know there is a setting in dconf editor that can be enable with :
gsettings set org.gnome.SessionManager auto-save-session true
But that makes no change: GNOME does not open my last session when I login back.
Have I forgotten something?
What can I do to get GNOME open my saved windows and position?
Thanks

There is no mechanism to save the session, at the moment; that setting does not do anything.

Philip Withnall gave a talk on this in GUADEC’ 23, but I’m not sure about the current state.

It’s still a work in progress; there’s an experimental Wayland protocol that is currently being implemented in GNOME Shell and GTK for saving and restoring window state, and we want to couple it with application state to be saved and restored. It needs more work, especially when it comes to the API exposed to applications.
