Unable to clone vm with gnome-boxes

When I do a cloning of a vm (from the GUI) the process hangs (never finish)
Any idea why?

Context:
I am running gnomes boxes on latest Trisquel (the mini version)
I tried cloning PureOS and Trisquet vm, but it both failed
[this seem a common issue on the web]

The OS boot on an external ssd drive
16 GB ram
128 GB ssd

I found that snapshot works
So it is a workaround if you want to work on another version of your vm
