Hi,
I come from KDE and I used split pane view often. I know Nautilus doesn’t has that and I know I can install another filemanager.
But before doing that, I wonder if the choice not to include a split pane option, is because another workflow is proposed?
A workflow for comparing and copying files from one folder to another.
As I remember, the usual response to this question is that you can open two Nautilus windows and use the window manager’s tiling features to put them side-by-side.
Tile two windows side by side in a single action. (#1337) · Issues · GNOME / Files · GitLab is the closest thing to an authoritative link that I’ve found.
To retain your workflow, you will have to use a different file manager. Dolphin, which you’re probably already familiar, works fine with Gnome. If you’d like to try something lighter weight, PCManFM-Qt (GitHub - lxqt/pcmanfm-qt: File manager and desktop icon manager (Qt port of PCManFM and libfm)) also supports split pane views.
Thanks. I don’t want to retain my workflow per se. I also want to learn new ways :-).
Yes, I know Dolphin and PCManFM. I can use it if I really don’t get used to other ways of working.
PCManFM I like, but it’s not in Flathub (I work on Bluefin, I can’t just install packages - I know it’s doable, but that’s not what I want)
