Sort apps in search based on usage

I tried to find if someone already discussed this here, but I could not find any. If there is, please redirect me to the thread and close this. Thanks :folded_hands: .

On Mac I used Alfred and then later Raycast. Both sorted the apps I searched for based on what I launched most often.

Example:

I search for “Firefox” and launch it. The next time, when I just enter F, “Firefox” is the first app in the list.

The sort is based on how often I started something with the same letters and boosts it in the sort algorithm.

Is this already planned or implemented, and I couldn’t find it?

Application search results have been sorted by usage (as in how long the windows were in focus recently) since gnome-shell 3.2.

That’s a totally valid way to sort, but I would love another version based on the interaction in the app search. One example: I search for “suspend,” which will then suspend my desktop. That app will not be able to be on #1 place because there is no window in focus for that. And yes, I have the habbit to do exactly that. No shortcuts, just searching for the things. Using the search as kinda command palette.

Further discussion will be in this ticket on Gitlab:
