Hi,
On May 8th at 16:00 UTC we have our next Social hour event.
This time we are happy to have Deb Nicholson
Deb Nicholson is a free software policy expert and a passionate
community advocate. She is the Director of Community Operations at
Software Freedom Conservancy where she supports the work of its member organizations and facilitates collaboration with the wider free software community.
The topic of the presentation will be: Roadmapping and Finding People
Most projects agree that they want new people in their community; new
users and especially new contributors. The problem is often one of
timing. When the project is smaller, it feels like there’s plenty of
time to bring new people in. Often once the project is a little larger
(and could really use some new folks) it starts to feel like there
isn’t enough time to bring new people up to speed.
- Making a roadmap
- Publicizing it
- Looking at your entry points
- Recursive delegation
The hardest part is examining your old habits and creating new ways of handling incoming people. Once you have a plan, then you see how effective it’s been. Bringing in new people will always take time – this talk identifies strategies to help make sure that time is well spent!
