Is there a way to write “dlag” and have it expanded to “dear ladies and gentlemen”?
Or “ys” to “yours sincerely”?
Not a function of email to do that. Your desktop environment may
provide a shortcut mechanism. Note that you can use an external editor
in Evolution (see under Preferences->Plugins).

What a pity that this is not implemented…
Feel free to file a Request For Enhancement (RFE) but there’s no
guarantee it would have enough support to be implemented.
Note that Evolution does support message templates (consult the online
Help), which may provide some of what you’re looking for.
