I’ve created a couple virtual machines in Boxes, using the Download OS option (Fedora Workstation 42 + KDE, Fedora Silverblue 42 + Budgie). When first installed, I can use the mouse scrollwheel and 2-finger scroll on my trackpad in all apps running in the virtual machines. But after I install software updates in the virtual OSes, scrolling no longer works. I have to use the mouse cursor to grab the scrollbar.
Host OS: Fedora Silverblue 42 running Gnome on Wayland; Boxes installed as Flatpak from Flathub.
Besides not installing updates, any suggestions for a fix?
I have the same problem after the update to fedora silverblue 2025-07-13 I think.
The only difference to me, I use the fedora installation as bare metal.
A solution or a quick fix would be really helpful, because the pc is usable but I drives me cracy to not be able to scroll.
For anyone else encountering this issue: I’ve narrowed it down to a couple triggers. If I enable 3D acceleration, scrolling stops working. Turning off 3D acceleration and rebooting the VM restores the ability to scroll (but much less smoothly, obviously). It also seems to be related to using Wayland in the guest VM.
Seems like this is a bug that will not be fixed anytime soon. So I’m living without 3D acceleration for the forseeable future.
