Restore backup to a different laptop

I would like to restore files from my old laptop onto a new laptop. The question is, will Deja Dup override files and data that’s in the new laptop or does it restore missing files?

Example, files from .local in the old laptop, when restoring .local will it wipe out whatever is there in the .local on the new laptop or bring in only those that are missing?

Hello! Yes, it will overwrite existing files if you choose “restore to original locations”

But you can also just restore to a new directory like ~/MyOldFiles and then move stuff around after the fact.

Thanks for your prompt response. I though of restoring to the different directory, but was wondering if Deja Dup offered a prompt to override or not. Based on your response looks like it doesn’t which is fine. I will restore to a different directory. Thanks
