Permission to fork repository GNOME Gitlab

Good Morning,

I recently created a new account on the GNOME Gitlab instance because I wanted to contribute to the developer.gnome.org project. When I select “fork” on the homepage of the project like suggested in the gnome wiki I get the error message

 Fork Error!

You tried to fork Teams / Documentation / developer-www but it failed for the following reason:

– Limit reached Personal project creation is not allowed. Please contact your administrator with questions

What am I misunderstanding?

Thank you for your time.

EDIT:
Please see the response from Emmanuele below for the resolution.

Add your SSH key to your gitlab profile and wait 10-20 minutes.

What if i just want to use a http token?

Also; the error message is only visible in the developer console.
The webpage just gives this useless message:

An error occurred while forking the project. Please try again.
