New strings in Orca

Hey all.

I just landed a behind-a-flag experimental feature in Orca related to displaying what Orca is speaking in a window. I know your priority is translating the not-behind-a-flag strings, but if you have some spare time to translate a few more strings related to this support, I’d be super appreciative!

Thanks for the update — that’s a very interesting feature, especially for debugging and accessibility testing.

Regarding translations, I’ve been considering contributing Arabic translations to Orca documentation. Arabic accessibility support still faces challenges — particularly due to limited high-quality Arabic TTS engines and inconsistencies across Linux distributions — so I’m not sure how widely Orca itself would be used in Arabic in practice.

That said, I strongly believe the documentation should be available in Arabic. Many visually impaired users who primarily use Windows or macOS would likely prefer to read the documentation in Arabic first, even if they use Orca in English.

So while runtime usage in Arabic may be limited, documentation accessibility in Arabic would still be very valuable.

Also, I wanted to mention that I tried to register on GNOME’s GitLab in order to contribute, but my email address was flagged as suspicious during registration.

I contacted the email address provided on the site regarding this issue, but I haven’t received a response yet. If there’s an alternative way to resolve account verification, I’d appreciate any guidance.

Thanks again for your work on Orca :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi, can you make a post on infrastructure category explaining the issue? Thanks
