New module: Solitaire

Solitaire has been added to Damned Lies. It is an app for playing patience games, so there are many card and patience related terms. It may help to reference Wikipedia’s list of patience terms: Glossary of solitaire terms - Wikipedia .

Cool, thanks for sharing :pink_heart:
I’ve just added the Kernewek (Cornish) translation and I think that one of the strings may be untranslatable. Specifically: %1$s of %2$s where %1$s is the rank and %2$s is the suit.

I’ve translated the ranks and suits so for example an ace of hearts:

  • Byd (Ace)
  • Kolonnow (Hearts)
  • %1$s a %2$s (%1$s of %2$s)

The problem is that “a” (“of”) in Kernewek is a soft mutation trigger. So in the interface we’ll end up with “Byd a Kolonnow” which is ungrammatical. It should be “Byd a Golonnow” because K mutates to G. Mutation can also happen in adjectival form so even something like %2$s %1$s wouldn’t work.

Maybe there is a way to account for mutation in gettext or something that people smarter than me know?

The actual rank an suit names are not used on their own, so you could translate Hearts to “Golonnow”. If it is an issue where the suit has to be translated differently based upon the rank, than I will make a change. Thanks for translating!

I doubt it, gettext is quite limited.

Thank you, that is very helpful!
I’ve translated the relevant suits as their mutated forms, it won’t be a problem as long as they’re only used in this instance.

Gettext doesn’t support that. Which hurts, but oh well.

Oh, thanks, I guess I will change my approach.

Probably a good idea to look at the strings from Aisleriot and see what can be reused from there. And then for translators to look at reusing translation from there.
