I just installed Nautilus on Mint 22 using the Software Manager.
When I start Nautilus, click the search magnifier icon in the upper left corner I get the search anywhere screen, then I click the Search Settings button and I get the following error,
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Dbus.error.Spawn.Chil-
dExited: Process.org.gnome.Settings exited with
status 1
I went back and installed the full gnome desktop environment using the software manager and Nautilus still errors
The GNOME Settings app can only be run on GNOME sessions. If you want to run it on a different session you could try pretending to run GNOME using env XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME gnome-control-center search locations. Some/most of the settings outside of the search location settings are probably not going to affect your current environment though.
Thanks for the reply, however,……, I do not know how to do what you are suggesting…..
I read about Nautilus + Tracker being able to TAG files and then be able to search using the tags, So I installed the apps and Nautilus seems to work well except for the ability to TAG. All of the “tests” I found on line indicate the Tracker app is functioning, but Nautilus still does not have the menu item in file properties to add tags, as the article says ..
Do you know if this function is still available or am I barking up the wrong tree ???
I do not remember where I saw the article, but I am trying to find it again… I have found several about Nautilus + Tracker enabling tabbing, but they are 10 to 15 years old… the article I found spoke of tracker nautilus and if I remember correctly, a program that replaced tracker and the article is fairly recent. I will let you know when I find it again…
