Phew!.. it’s been a journey! Just want to say thanks to @kabushawarib for landing:
With nautilus 49.0, now there’s no more futzing around with system locales, and LC_TIME hacks with en_DK.UTF-8 are required no longer.
Nor are any translation modifications needed.
A quick patch and I’ve got exactly the date (and time) format I desire:
I only modified the “Detailed” version and left the “Simple” variant at its defaults. It’s cool.
My only request / suggestion: it would be even cooler if, when in Simple mode, a tooltip could display the timestamp when hovering over any ambiguous item like “yesterday” or “last month”.
But, I guess that’s the point of “Detailed” mode, so I’m happy as is.
