Creating a text layer and trying to move the selected text layer, clicking and moving would move the layer in the background, unless I pinpoint the cursor on the text.
It’s very frustrating and time consuming to pinpoint the text to move it. My understanding is that the selected layer is the only layer that should/could be manipulated.
Am i just stupid and need more lessons/experience?
When you are using the move tool, select “Move the selected layers” from the “Tool Options”. You can also toggle the behavior by pressing “Shift” key while using the move tool. If you can’t find “Tool Options”, select “Windows > Dockable Dialogs > Tool Options” from the menubar.
While you are in the Text tool, Alt-Control-Drag moves the text layer you are working on, even if you click outside a character. So 1) you don’t need to exit the Text tool to adjust the position, and 2) you don’t get the pick-topmost-opaque-layer behavior.
Of course outside the Text tool when using the Move tool the standard behavior returns, for better or for worse.
Actually, when the move tool is active, it is the shift modifier that works in this situation:
Just hold shift down to move the current selected layer (or group), no matter where you click.
