Matrix Channel Join Issues

Hi,
I was trying to join #control-center:gnome.org to get some past information regarding an open issue. I run into the issue, that these are apparently invite only (judging from Matrix: Not invited to this room?).

  • Is there a list of the invite only channels somewhere and where to apply for an invite?
  • Is it possible to “whitelist” some handles such as ubuntu.com or fedora.im?
  • Is it possible to view messages from the past when you receive a link to them? In my case the information I got linked is kinda lost to me now.

No, but the GNOME room is not private, and you can ask there for an invite.

No. Those rooms are private even to people with a GNOME account.

You’ll have to ask somebody in that room.

Thank you, I kinda missed the obvious way to deal with this (just asking).

Regarding the third point: Is there an option to then share it or would it basically be a copy and pasting / summarizing it?

I don’t think there’s a way to do that, but I am not an expert on Matrix.

Do you mean being able to see chat history before your join event (I.e. before you join the room) or…?

Yes, seeing the history before the join event up to the linked message. Only seeing the message would work if everyone would respond in the thread (or what it is called).
