Did you mean the brightness slider in quick settings (menu from top right)?
Same issue with Opensuse Tumbleweed, Debian 13 and Ubuntu 25.04. On a Dell AIO with no dedicated keys to adjust screen brightness Gnome 48 is now unusable (screen far too bright for my eyes !)
Until the fix is merged and included by your distro you can use something like gdbus call --session --dest org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Power --object-path /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/Power --method org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Set org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Power.Screen Brightness '<90>'
to change the brightness once. The slider will then be visible for the remainder of the session. It has to be an actual change though, so if the brightness is already at 90
, use some other value.
fedora silverblue no overlay package install 41 and now with 42 issue is same i have tested with other laptop issue remains tested with opensuse same issue brightness slider shows after i increase or decrease with keyboard
seems like it is the same issue that i was facing issue is still remains i just switch to fedora 42 and rollbacked as the issue still remains
i have tested this on my 2 laptop and issue was same but with desktop there is no issue as desktop never had the slider on the first place even with windows
i just rolled back to fedora 41 so i cant test this As i need to switch back again to 42 beta. i will once the fix merged.
I am on linux and gnome since fedora 40 and on desktop 18.04 ubuntu i never had an issue like this. the the pr seem not a big change.
thanks for your help i highly appreciate.
The issue is still present in fedora 42. The slider appears in the quick-settings after a brightness change via keyboard shortcuts. There is no brightness slider in the gnome-control-center.
As mentioned in above post, the issue is yet to be fixed / merged.
This issue is now fixed and available in gnome-settings-daemon-48.1
, which was released today.
