Is there a way to translate extension metadata (eg name and description)?

I want to translate an extension, and realized that the name and the description (all strings in metadata.json) are still in English. Is there a way to translate these as well?

Translation of extension names and descriptions

No. Name and description are provided by the extension itself, and the format used (JSON) isn’t supported by the framework used for translations. There is an open merge request to switch to a format that supports translations, but it hasn’t gained much traction.
