Pulled and recompiled gimp (and the gimp-data submodule) and the splash screen is still on RC2 (and the XCF it seems to come from agrees…) while “About” is on RC3+git. Did I miss something?

Nah I didn’t really forget. It’s just that it’s only a RC and every splash change adds several MiB to the gimp-data repository.
We did create this separate repository for the big size of some data to be less of a problem (since unless you need to edit data, developers can checkout the gimp-data as a shallow clone, i.e. only the last version). But it’s still a problem e.g. for people who need to edit the data.
So yeah, if we can avoid changing the file a few times, it’s all for the best. We will edit the splash for the finale release though, of course!
