Improve progress indicator

E.g:
1:
I delete a big folder which takes some minutes and go on with my work and later i will check the status then i just see “deleting 234 files…”. I want to see “deleting folder /tmp/work (233 files)” or something to be sure the right one going to del. Also when multiple operations are runnig im loosing orientation.

2:
Same when compressing files. i just see something like “3333 Files going to…zip”. Text is cut off and missing important infos: what is going to compress and where will the zip placed. I imagine something like “Compressing ~/mywork into ./mywork.zip”

Im using German version of gnome, not sure if the Text is like in my description, See Images

Hi.

Thanks for the ideas. Both sound like an improvement for the common case where the operation starts from a single folder.

Do you have any suggestions for what to do if the operation starts from a selection of more than one folder and/or files?

My first approach would be: Consequentially create for each item a seperate operation bubble (Copy, move, compress…) when doing stuff on multiple items. On detail bubble still tell exact file / folder path:

Second approach:

Just change the name to the folder which currently beeing copied…
I imagine it like that:

This approach also include something like a log what was done

Please note im not respecting any gnome design guidlines (if there) i just did it on my own and not woked out every detail but i guess you get the idea

the current copying folder + path is showed abover the progress bar
the current copying file is showed under the progress bar
if there are multiple item choosed, it will display one after the other. Last finished one are displayed above the current copy Message. There is a button where expand all previous copied items

Great idea. That would give more overview.
