Implement binary prefixes

From 1999 onwards, binary prefixes for storage size, defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission, use powers of 2:

1 Kio = 210 = 1024 octets,
1 Mio = 220 = 1,048,576 octets,
1 Gio =230 = 1,073,741,824 octets.

How feasible would it be that Nautilus reflects this international standard, or at least accepts an option in preferences, to let users display volume sizes in this system?

Hi, nautilus gets its units from GLib, which are KB/MB/GB not KiB/MiB/GiB. What do you need this for?

Thanks for the info. Shall I contact GLib team, then?

I was planning on showing the decimal/binary system to pupils in IT lessons. According to Wikipedia, Ubuntu, Debian and macOS would be using binary system, but I don’t have them on a personal computer nor at school to showcase this. I’m surprised these distro added the feature on top of Gnome; as a Fedora user, I’m not able to display binary prefixes.

Teaching about binary sizes, while good to do, is not something that warrants any changes to apps for everyday usage I am afraid.

Agreed, but what about conformity with international standards?
