How to Suggest an Address Bar for File Browsing Dialogues in GNOME?

Hello all,

I often find myself wishing for the ability to paste file paths directly into the file browsing dialog (e.g., when opening or attaching files). This dialog appears to be inherited from the Nautilus app (or at least strongly resembles it).

In my workflow, I frequently copy file paths, but the lack of an address bar in the browsing dialog makes it cumbersome to use those paths directly. It’s surprising that this feature isn’t available, as it would greatly improve efficiency for many users working with files and documents.

Can someone confirm which application or component is responsible for the file browsing dialog? Additionally, where would be the best place to file a feature request for adding an address bar or similar functionality?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

Best regards,

The dialog in your screenshot is the default gtk file chooser dialog and has nothing to do with Nautilus.

Since GNOME 47 applications (that use the portal for opening files) will get a different dialog provided by Nautilus. That dialog features the same clickable address bar as Nautilus by default:

Thank you for the explanation. The CTRL+L works also for these non-Nautilus dialogue boxes.
