How Install Gtk 4.X on Raspberry Pi OS (Debian)

Hi Folks,

I’m Still Hoping to install Gtk 4.0 on Debian (Raspberry Pi OS), but have not been able to reach out to them successfully.

How many millions of Raspberry Pi boards have been sold? So there must be other developers like myself who are stuck with Gtk 3.0 for now.

If anyone knows how best to reach out to those at GTK and / or Debian Linux, I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks for considering!
Roark

The latest released Raspberry Pi OS image is based on Debian 11 (Bullseye) which does not have Gtk4.

Gtk4 is packaged in what will become Debian 12 (Bookworm).

You might be able to upgrade to bookworm already, but I don’t think this is supported, so I advice caution (and backups) should you decide to go that route.

Alternatively you might try building the gtk4 Debian packages yourself from GNOME / gtk4 · GitLab but I have no idea if the dependencies can be satisfied on a Bullseye based system, so YMMV.
