GNOME Shell freezes if starting up while network is connecting

I’ve started using the Gnome desktop not too long ago and like it but when I log in too early, while NetworkManager is connecting to a wireless network, the Gnome Shell will either freeze with a gray screen or will die, sending me back to GDM. I can reproduce this 50% of the time and with extensions off. I can’t see anything interesting in the journal, but I need to look into it once more.

Before I dig into this more deeply, has anybody experienced something similar and maybe solved it?

I am using GNOME Shell 43.2 on a NixOS system.

How do you know for sure, that the issue you’re facing is related to NetworkManager / connecting-to-wifi-network, and not something else ?
