Gnome OSK touchscreen

Hello,

I have been researching for a few days now about the on screen keyboard. I have a Surface running Kali (Debian). I’m using Gnome and Wayland (for touchscreen purposes). For the most part it works quite well.

However, sometimes I need to use the escape key, and there are some apps I would like to use that benefit from a numpad. I feel like Gnome should have some more robust keyboard customization. The escape key especially is an oft-used key. Is this something that will be implemented in the future? There are large grey boxes on either side of the keyboard, with the actual keys only occupying 50% of the space it takes up.

I have tried various extensions, none of which have worked, and I don’t think they’re up to date with current Gnome version.

Onboard works a little bit, but interferes with other windows. The default gnome keyboard is good in that regard.

Second that, some settings for the osk would be great! You get a ctrl and tab key when using a terminal, which is great, but a basic keybard using anythig else, so even when editing documents, the tab key would come in handy, would be nice if it could just use the full keyboard on everything. Like you said, there is plenty of space. a paste button on the side would probably come in handy quite often too.

Also, not sure if anyone is having a similar problem, since updating to fedora 42, the entire keyboard “bounces” as predictive text appears and disappears from the top, which is very annoying.
