Gnome-control-center timezones translation

Hi all,

I just realize that gnome-control-center now have translatable strings in panels/system/datetime/po-timezones. That directory contain README that said:

Those translations are copied from system-config-date
http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/?p=system-config-date.git;a=tree;f=po/timezones
and should not be modified by the GNOME translation teams.

Problem is, git.fedorahosted.org was retired and I can not find where that upstream repo moved to. Can someone enlighten me where to push translation updates?

Other question about this translation: can we change underscores into spaces in the translation? Or should we keep those underscores?

The underscores are mnemonics, a keyboard accessibility feature. They should be preserved. See Mnemonics (keyboard) - Wikipedia

https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/system-config-date seems like a dead package.

Since gnome-control-center copies the translations in-tree from a project that is now abandoned, I suggest we start translating those strings as part of GNOME Settings now. I will see if I find some more historical context to this.

I think it might be beneficial to leverage something like https://cldr.unicode.org/ for this, perhaps via libicu (https://icu.unicode.org/).

Settings doesn’t depend on that, but I believe GTK might depend on it indirectly already.

No, GTK does not depend on libicu. GTK uses the Unicode tables from GLib, which are generated from the Unicode data.

The translations for the timezone names should come from the underlying system C library, like GNU libc. If Control Center is using some other translation it makes sense to have them in its own translatable strings list. It does not make sense to have them inside GTK.
