Gnome 48 Issues - Anyone Experiencing These?

Hi all, I’m experiencing a few issues with Gnome 48, and thought I would ask if anyone else is experiencing the same.

OS: EndeavourOS Mercury (Arch based, fresh install) with Gnome 48.

Hardware: AMD GPU (9070 XT) with the latest Mesa drivers, Ryzen 9950X3D, Dell 5K2K (5120x2160) with 125% scaling.

Issues resizing windows: Resizing windows barely works - I have to drag them with the mouse, and the size doesn’t update until I release, and even then, it only partially resizes. Some software seems generally laggy as well, almost as if there’s no hardware acceleration.

Visual issue when opening software: When opening certain apps, there will be a large outer black frame (200px+) on the left and top sides for 1-2 seconds before eventually fully loading and appearing as they should.

Brave browser shortcuts: Every time Brave is opened, I get hit with several popups asking me to set keyboard shortcuts for extensions. No matter what I select, they come back after closing the browser. I’ve updated to the latest version of Brave that was pushed today. (03/26/25)

Fractional scaling: I’ve also noticed a regression where some software’s text is blurry again, even with frame buffer enabled.

For example - Black Box terminal from Flathub is blurry, but from the AUR it is not.

Note: None of these issues happen on Fedora 41 running the latest Gnome 47 release.

Is anyone else experiencing any of these problems?

I’m relatively new to Arch based distros, but I don’t believe any of these are related to missing anything after installing, as they weren’t an issue with Arch running Gnome 47 a couple months ago.

Thanks!

I’m using Fedora 42 prerelease.

The only thing that is problematic here is Brave, which shows me this window 3x:

I don’t know how to solve this, does anyone know?

There is no PNG attachment.

Some screenshots for the 3 visual issues could help.

The workaround for the Chromium bug is to add the line --disable-features=GlobalShortcutsPortal to your ~/.config/brave-flags.conf file.

I can’t send screenshots. There seems to be a problem.

Can you provide more details?

i am facing a issue that brightness slider from quick toggle does not apear

Yep, very similar! I would even be somewhat confident in saying this is the culprit. Not certain, but the first video looks almost identical to the issue I’m having.

Hey all,

I’ve recorded and uploaded a video of exactly what’s happening with the window resizing issue, and the visual glitch when opening. After a bit of testing, I’ve narrowed the problem down to the ‘xwayland-native-scaling.’ This issue does not appear when only ‘scale-monitor-framebuffer’ is enabled.

It also only happens with x11 apps.

same problems with a Ryzen 8845HS (radeon 780M iGPU). Black frame around Godot launching for example, but had it with other apps too.
some full sized(super + up key) applications sometimes have trouble scrolling through the content, but as soon as I make it smaller the content scrolls smooth again.

Also latest mesa on 6.13.8-arch1-1 introduced artefacting for me, downgrading to 24.3.4 fixed that at least. But still enough ways to crash my laptop, e.g. watch Youtube on Brave and skip back and forth in a video a bunch of times until laptop starts to hang and never fixes itself.

still unsure if it’s a kernel issue or Gnome issue.
