GNOME 48.0 newstable tarballs due (responsible: mclasen), GNOME 47.5 stable tarballs due (responsible: jbicha), GNOME 46.10 oldstable tarballs due (responsible: alatiera)

Hello all,

We would like to inform you about the following:

  • GNOME 48.0 newstable tarballs due
  • GNOME 47.5 stable tarballs due
  • GNOME 46.10 oldstable tarballs due

Tarballs are due on 2025-03-15 before 23:59 UTC for the GNOME
48.0 newstable release, which will be delivered next week. All modules
that had an unstable release during the current release cycle must
release to ensure a stable version number, even if there have been no
changes since the previous release.

Please make sure that your tarballs will be uploaded before Saturday 23:59
UTC. Tarballs uploaded later than that will probably be too late. If
you need help, please contact the release team and we’ll find someone to
handle the release for you.

Tarballs are due on 2025-03-15 before 23:59 UTC for the GNOME
47.5 stable release, which will be delivered next week. Core modules
are not expected to follow the schedule for stable releases. Instead,
please release when you judge that a new stable release is required.
Modules released before this deadline will be included in the 47.5
update of the GNOME runtime.

Tarballs are due on 2025-03-15 before 23:59 UTC for the GNOME
46.10 oldstable release, which will be delivered next week. Core modules
are not expected to follow the schedule for stable releases. Instead,
please release when you judge that a new stable release is required.
Modules released before this deadline will be included in the 46.10
update of the GNOME runtime.

For more information about the schedule for GNOME 48,
please see the release calendar.

Thanks,

Hi all.

Following the recent infrastructure maintenance, the 47.5 and 46.10 release have been pushed back.

The new tarballs deadline is 2025-03-24 23:59 UTC and you can expect the GNOME releases shortly after.

Hi, any chance of gnome-session getting tagged for 48.0, even if it’s mostly cosmetic?

Feels kinda odd running Gnome 48.0 with gnome-session 47.0.1

Thanks!

Looks like there are no changes other than one fix to a testsuite and a couple translation updates, so there’s really nothing to release. I think it’s fine for stable software to not have a new release as long as the latest version doesn’t use alpha/beta/rc versioning.

Thanks. Yeah, that’s what I meant by ‘mostly cosmetic’.

I do understand, but my neurosis really wants to see Gnome core components lockstep in versioning hehe.

p.s. I’m looking at you localsearch where I think that’s planned for 49.0.
