Hello all,

We would like to inform you about the following:

  • GNOME 47.beta newstable tarballs due
  • GNOME 46.4 stable tarballs due
  • GNOME 45.9 oldstable tarballs due
  • API/ABI, UI and Feature Addition Freeze; String Change Announcement Period for GNOME 46
  • New APIs for GNOME 46 must be fully documented
  • Writing of GNOME 46 release notes begins

Tarballs are due on 2024-08-03 before 23:59 UTC for the GNOME
47.beta newstable release, which will be delivered next week. In order to
ensure adequate testing, core modules should try to release according to
the unstable schedule if they have nontrivial changes.

Please make sure that your tarballs will be uploaded before Saturday 23:59
UTC. Tarballs uploaded later than that will probably be too late.

Tarballs are due on 2024-08-03 before 23:59 UTC for the GNOME
46.4 stable release, which will be delivered next week. Core modules
are not expected to follow the schedule for stable releases. Instead,
please release when you judge that a new stable release is required.
Modules released before this deadline will be included in the 46.4
update of the GNOME runtime.

Tarballs are due on 2024-08-03 before 23:59 UTC for the GNOME
45.9 oldstable release, which will be delivered next week. Core modules
are not expected to follow the schedule for stable releases. Instead,
please release when you judge that a new stable release is required.
Modules released before this deadline will be included in the 45.9
update of the GNOME runtime.

API freeze begins on 2024-08-03 at 23:59 UTC. No API or ABI changes should be made in the platform libraries. This provides a stable development platform for the rest of the schedule.

Feature freeze begins on 2024-08-03 at 23:59 UTC. No new modules or features will be accepted for this release period. Bug fixes of existing features are not affected. This allows developers to concentrate on refining the new features instead of adding yet more functionality.

UI freeze begins on 2024-08-03 at 23:59 UTC. No major UI changes may be made without confirmation from the release team. Small fixes do not require permission.

New APIs must be fully documented

Feature freeze is today.

SpiderMonkey 128.1 is released this coming Tuesday, August 6. (128.0 is not buildable due to a couple of bugs.) (see GNOME 47 to depend on SpiderMonkey 128)

Would it be acceptable if I just released GJS a few days late so that we can have SpiderMonkey in the 47.beta release?

Or does this merit a freeze break request?

Go ahead and release it late.
