Hi, the first time I went to register at https://gitlab.gnome.org, I mistyped the email (one I don’t have access to) so the username I’d like to use is associated with that email.

Where could I write to ask them to remove that erroneous account and release the username?

I would suggest you register with a very similar name. You can change the username later.

Afterward, you can try to gently ask the infra team if they can delete the account with the non-existent mail address https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/GitLab/-/issues

However, I don’t know if that’s possible.
