How can I force a contacts sync with my internet CardDav server?

I setup an online account in the gnome shell settings for my Nextcloud server, and the Gnome Contacts application shows the contacts from there. Now I added a new contact in the Nextcloud web interface and want to have it immediately available in Gnome Contacts.
How can I force a synchronization?

Unfortunately, GNOME Contacts doesn’t have that functionality (yet). There’s a longstanding issue open about it (Feature request: Forced sync (#143) · Issues · GNOME / GNOME Contacts · GitLab), but nobody has seriously looked into this AFAIK.

If you have Evolution installed, one workaround could be to right click the address book there and click the “Refresh” menu item.
