Hi

Is there a file format change between GIMP 2.x and GIMP 2.99.x (which will become GIMP 3)?
So in other words, can I still open all files using GIMP 2 if I ever want to go back for some reason?

When you “Save as” from gimp, there’s a little footer on the window that lists any incompatibility with earlier versions. The most likely one is compression; save as .xcf.gz rather than using the newer built-in compression.
