Feature request: Virtual FS for Network shares

I’m a fan of the way proprietary internet storage works and that with file caching and independent on availability of Internet.

I propose to develop a generic virtual file system that could be used with different network shares like smb, sshfs, webdav and others.

I’m not sure if this is what you are looking for, but GNOME has a virtual file syatem implementation called GVFS which supports ftp, smb, webdav, and many more.

For caching, there is an issue files at GVfs caching (#230) · Issues · GNOME / gvfs · GitLab

But it’s no easy task.

Actually, someone using the same nickname as you has already proposed the same thing 2 years ago, but it doesn’t look like they haven’t backed it up with either patches or money, so, unsurprisingly, nothing came out of it Virtual file system for the Online Account Nextcloud and may other to.
