Hi GNOME Community/Developers,
I’d like to strongly advocate for adding Air Quality Index (AQI) support to the GNOME Weather app. This feature isn’t just a “nice-to-have” – it’s a critical health and safety tool for millions of users, especially those in regions affected by:
Wildfire smoke (e.g., North America, Australia)
Urban pollution (e.g., cities in India, China, or the EU)
Seasonal dust storms or industrial emissions
Why AQI Matters to Me (and Many Others):
Health Impact: Poor air quality exacerbates asthma, allergies, and long-term respiratory issues. Without AQI data, vulnerable users (including children and the elderly) lack the information to make safe decisions.
Real-Time Awareness: During wildfires or pollution spikes, AQI is as vital as weather forecasts. Relying on third-party apps or websites defeats the purpose of an integrated desktop experience.
Global Relevance: Air quality is a growing concern worldwide. GNOME, as a leader in open-source UX, should prioritize features that address modern environmental challenges.
A Humble Request:
Add this feature into gnome weather and weather notification area. we need to have this. here are some aqi data provider with free api
Adding this aqi feature really really important mainly for the countries like India and china maybe some states of usa. mainly Indian states like delhi and some other places The pollution level is extremely high mostly hazardous.
I know here we have strong position holding persons if they could push this we can have this feature and it will be really necessary like time. Things are so bad maybe we need to look more than aqi instead of temperature.
