Current Gnome unfortunately it very difficult to use if you have a kvm switch that switches your displayport monitor between machines. On every switch gnome changes resolutions and moves windows back to the primary monitor.
From my brief research it is mutter’s dbus service that does that by handling a Monitor Configure signal. It would be great to be able to disable this at will.
