I’m new to the site, came here looking for help on one of Gnome’s applications. Found a very helpful person with lots of info, got into a question/answer sequence with him (I think it’s a him) that was exactly what I was looking for. And then I got a notice that I had posted my limit as a new user for the time being, and could post again in 13 hours.
But that means my helpful person may think I’ve just given up, or ghosted him, or something. My feature request is that you warn a new user one or two posts BEFORE the limit is reached that the limit is imminent. I had no idea there was such a limit, so I had no chance to explain why I would stop answering.
Discourse adapts the permissions and capabilities of your account—your trust level—depending on the amount of time and effort you spend on it.
That’s not really how things work in web forums. You can use the “solution” checkbox, or you can “like” the reply using the heart button; you don’t need to leave a message, and one—while welcome—isn’t required.
Additionally, there’s no immediate need to leave a reply at any point: Discourse is for asynchronous discussions. You can wait a day to leave a reply. If you want synchronous conversations, there’s Matrix.
