Editing a string in a single cell from a tree view

I have especially looked at implementation details from the application “GNOME Evolution 3.36.5”.
I am still wondering about a software behaviour according to the desired editing of a string in a single cell from a GTK tree view (which contains two columns for example).

A text input field is offered. This widget covers the complete row then.
How should such an aspect be adjusted?
