I love Dia diagram. I have been using it for several years. And I’d like to keep on using it for many years more. But I have serious problems using it with Ubuntu 24.04: It goes very very slow. It is impossible for me to work properly. So I’d really appreciate a workaround.
Ubuntu ships a fairly non-standard copy of Dia, so it may be worth trying to talk to them.
That said, slow in what way?
I am using Dia 0.98.0 and the problem comes when I try to change the properties of some kind of elements. For instance,
- Database-Reference needs more or less 10 seconds to open the properties dialog of a element.
- Database-Table element is more complex so its properties dialog takes still more time and a message is shown telling “Dia is not responding” Do you want to For Quit or Wait.
- UML-Class is the element I use most lately. Very very frustrating.
Thank you
Dia 0.98.0
Which doesn’t exist, see the problem?
I’m guessing you have a lot of fonts? There is a known issue with loading the font list.
You were right. I had 327 fonts enabled. I have disabled most of them and… boilá!!!
Problems solved.
Thank you very much.
(I’ll keep on using release 0.98.0 )
(obviously improving the font loading is something of a key issue I hope to address, but I’m glad you’ve got an ‘acceptable’ solution in the intermediate)
Actually, I don’t need so many fonts regularly. So, I will manage enabling/disabling them as required. Thanks.
How were you able to disable the fonts? Can you explain? Thanks
I disabled the fonts using the application font-manager that I installed easily from Ubuntu repos.
It works, thanks, finally DIA can be used as before
