At the GNOME booth this year at FOSDEM we had a phone and a laptop running stock GNOME. I was thinking that these demos would be more fun if there was some media to explore on the devices.
For example: music, photos, artwork, short videos, recipes, articles, anything that you might find on a real person’s device.
Then I thought; there are some pretty creative people in the GNOME community. What if we curated a set of demo media made by contributors and users?
So this is an open call for musicians, artists, writers, cooks and so on who have something to share. An album, a photo, and so on. Share what you have and I’ll compile it into an archive that we can load onto devices in order to better demo the GNOME platform.
The only restriction is it will need to be under a Creative Commons license so we can redistribute it without any kind of license fees.
Could you identify the topics? That makes it easier for people to know what you are looking for. I assume you want content that you show on the laptop by people who used GNOME and open source to create something. (eg gimp, inkscape, blender, and so on)
I’m interested in content that will be good in a demo device on a booth like at FOSDEM.
So, could be music that sounds good. Or landscape photos of interesting places. Or, a LibreOffice document with a cool recipe. Something that’s more interesting than an empty device.
I don’t think we need to put any requirement on how the content was made. What is interesting is that it’s made by someone with a connection to GNOME. This is a community powered project and so our demos would ideally link back to people in the community.
For example, I know both me and @jimmac have recorded music, probably more people too. So that would be a good candidate as we’re also GNOME contributors.
Because screenshots for release notes always needed some content, we’ve set up a small example content repo in the design team space. conference/expos is an ideal consumer for these too.
