I recently landed support in deja-dup for browsing your backed up files via FUSE when using Restic!
The screenshot below doesn’t really do it justice, but whereas before, each snapshot entry would show a > character on the right (which would take you to a custom in-app file browser), now there is an “external link” icon and clicking the row opens Nautilus (or whatever your file manager is) on a FUSE view of the inside of your snapshot.
This is one more step on the Restic journey we’ve been on. From enabling opt-in support five years ago, to enabling Restic by default in the 48.0 Flathub release, to enabling it for all builds and redesigning the UI to allow the above flow (snapshot list → nautilus launch) all coming in 49.0.
The 49.0 release is going to be great!
You can help test all this in the nightly builds. (Note that if you test this and you still see an in-app browser, you’re probably using an older Duplicity backup. Make a fresh backup into an empty location and you’ll now have a Restic backup.)
Next month I’ll also likely release a 49.alpha where this can all be tested too.
