Default icon theme on GTK3

Hi all,
Im a inkscape developer and have a question about whats the default icon theme of GTK3?
We have a “hicolor” icons folder for our main theme custom icons.

Have some issues setting icontheme to “hicolor” from inside the app. Our question is easy:

If no OS changes GTK3 use “Adwaita” or “hicolor”.

All our test tell us the safest value is use “Adwaita” for defaults but your expertise is welcome here.

The “hicolor” icon theme is the ultimate fallback for any icon theme. Application icons should always go under the “hicolor” theme, because it’s the only guaranteed icon theme that will always be searched.
