Copy selection and paste as new image since GIMP 3

Hello…

Since GIMP 3 (I believe) I have a little problem.

I often select an area in a photo, then “copy selection” and “paste as new image”.

This is now different. It creates a new image, but with empty space around the copied selection. I always must click “copy selection” twice, in order to make it work as it was before.

Must I use some other function? I use this quite often.
Just “select” , “copy” and “paste as new image”.

@haheute Hi! This is an issue caused by how we copy/paste with the new multi-selection code. We’re tracking it on Copy selection pastes selection within the boundaries of the whole image (#10490) · Issues · GNOME / GIMP · GitLab, and we have a potential fix - it just needs more review to make sure it works on all platforms. I’m hopeful it will make it into the next bugfix release.

Okay… (I’m using Linux) Good to know, you are on it… I’ll wait then…
Thank you!

Is it available in main/master or is it still in a branch (willing to pull and home-compile to see if has nasty side effects…)

Right now it’s in Issue #10490: Resize clip image when copying (!2172) · Merge requests · GNOME / GIMP · GitLab

It should paste the cropped layer properly. The main issue seems to be on some platforms, it’s pasted as a buffer so the offset position is lost. You can read the discussion in the merge request for more details.
