Cannot see etc folder

I have recently upgraded to Debian 13 Trixie. On install I used separate partitions for Home and working folders like etc. The trouble is that I can only access the Home folder in nautilus, where in bookworm I had access to other partitions and could see them in the file manager.

Is this a Trixie problem or a file manager problem?

What happens when you access /etc/ in nautilus ?

I cannot access it because other partitions are not showing other than the Home partition.

  1. What version of nautilus are you running ?

  2. Press Ctrl + L and enter /etc/ in location bar and press enter.

v 48.3. I tried doing as you suggested but got an error msg asking me to check my spelling and try again. I do appreciate your suggestion, though. The file manager is just not seeing the other partitions.

In bookworm, I had a computer option on the LHS menu. If I clicked on that I could access the other partitions. I have a feeling it may be a Trixie problem.

'Other Partitions' was removed from nautilus a while ago and nautilus sidebar was redesigned. The new design lists the partitions directly in sidebar.

Permanently mounted partitions are not shown in the sidebar.

Unless you’re running Nautilus in some type of security container that restricts its access you can go to any location by clicking the location bar and typing where to go. E.g., click the location bar, type / and press Enter to go to your system root.

Thank you Jakedane that worked for me. It may not be as aesthetically pleasing as seeing the location in the LHS menu but I am grateful, nevertheless.

You can just press Ctrl+D to bookmark while in root
