Can I donate to GNOME via Open Collective?

I want to donate to GNOME. I did a web search and found this page: https://donate.gnome.org/

When I clicked on a plan, I was taken to a Stripe payment page. OK, cool…

BUT, I already have an Open Collective account and was hoping to use that instead.

So, I did another web search and found this: GNOME Foundation - Open Collective

However, I can’t seem to find any official statement from GNOME saying they accept donations on Open Collective.

So. Can I donate to GNOME on Open Collective? Does GNOME even check that account? Or is the preferred method to use Stripe?

Donating to Guix was a little easier because they provide options up front: https://guix.gnu.org/en/donate/

Thanks for your interest in donating, @zoh7ca . That’s very cool of you.

You’re right that the GNOME Foundation has an Open Collective account, but it’s not currently set up to receive donations. We did investigate using it in the past, but eventually decided against it - there were some technical/accounting issues that meant that it wasn’t practical for us.

Sorry if this is less convenient that you would like. Stripe is generally a low-friction payment option and seems to be working well for others. Just let us know if you have any issues.

Thanks again!

Thanks for clarifying!

I was able to complete my donation through Stripe without any issues.
