Can Gimp 2.10.38 save images as 2-bit .png files?

See topic. I’m trying to convert grayscale images to maximally compacted .png files as book images for later inclusion into a .pdf file. Can Gimp 2.10.38 save images as 2-bit .png files?

You can get to a 1-bit PNG by indexing to two colors (e.g. pure black and white) and then exporting to PNG. Indexing to four colors will give you something that ImageMagick labels as “Depth: 2/8-bit” , which may or may not be what you are looking for.
