Berserk Hard Drive after long use, system locks, log files

Berserk hard drive freezes system after a few hour use, must reset to stop

After a few hours use, this message, among several others, repeats rapidly, hard drive continually seeks, system unusable. Reboot, runs ok for a while (couple hours or so), then it starts again. Usually I have to use the reset button to stop it.

Just a very short set of samples below - this and similar will go on forever until I shut down and restart :

You’re using gnome-panel, a GNOME 2 era component that is currently only part of the “Flashback” session, which is not part of GNOME.

Those are critical warnings coming from gnome-panel; they indicate a bug. Please open an issue on the project’s issue tracker.

Still working on this problem.

I think the problem is gone - A system update about 2+ weeks ago seemed to fix it, and I’ve been watching it since then, and no problems… yet…
