Attempted install of BIMP now causes 30 second delay of running gimp

Last night I tried to install BIMP for gimp, but the make failed, since the gimptool was missing. Now everytime I start gimp, it is delayed for about 30 secs and a message occurs:

gui_dbus_name_lost: the name "org.gimp.GIMP.UI" could not be acquired on the bus.

I monitored the dbus using the “busctl monitor” command, but nothing from gimp ever shows up.

Does anyone have any idea why gimp startup is delayed?

I started up gimp with the --verbose option and this appears in the long log file

INIT: gimp_initialize
INIT: gimp_real_initialize
gui_dbus_name_lost: the name "org.gimp.GIMP.UI" could not be acquired on the bus.

I hope this is a hint good enough to localize what is happening. I uninstalled gimp from my linux system and reinstalled but that did NOT fix the problem.

@American_Citizen Some questions: What GIMP version? From where you got GIMP (from the distro, snap or flatpak)?

I’ve seen this in my flatpak installation ever since RC1.
But it doesn’t seem to do any harm. To me it looks like everything works ok nevertheless.

Gimp v2.10.30-150400.3.11.1-x86_64 from vendor SUSE LLC

Hi,

I almost posted about this today! When I modify GIMP and it crashes due to an error, I’ve started seeing this issue when restarting after the crash. Something has changed recently to cause this because I’ve modified and crashed GIMP 1000’s of times, and this has never happened before. Maybe sometime in the last 8 weeks? It’s good to see that it’s not just me and my system. I checked the processes and found a Script-Fu process that I couldn’t kill. Restarting the machine makes it start at normal speed again.

Thank you for this post. I still am suffering from the 20-30 second delay problem.
