ARM and Gimp 2.8.2

I’m comfortable using gimp 2.8.2 and would like to continue using it on my new laptop which is pc+pilot. I want to know if 2.8.2 has been optimized for pc+pilot?

You can keep using it with Prism emulation. No arm64 build exists for GIMP 2.8.

so basically i will be able to run gimp 2.8.2 on copilot+pc? And will I have to download Prism?

Prism is the name of the x64 emulator that it is built-in on Windows ARM64 devices. You don’t need to install it.

I think you are the best person to know if Prism is working well is you by just using GIMP 2.8.2 :slightly_smiling_face:. I have neither GIMP 2.8 nor arm64 PC.

What I can say for sure is that later GIMP 2.10 versions have partial arm64 support (some dependencies like python are emulated from x64) and only GIMP 3 have full arm64 support (all binaries are native, without needing Prism).

Technical note: even so, no version of GIMP is “optimized” for arm64 because the code does not use specific ARM64 instructions like NEON. (actually, native babl and gegl use NEON instructions when native)

Thank you for your response.
